Pride Community Center offers a set of peer support groups. No licensed counselor is provided. These meetings are purely peer led. Individuals share stories and advice regarding the topic of the group.
Parents, Families and Friends Support Group (PFFA)
The Parents, Families, and Friends support group is made up mainly of parents navigating the world with their LGBTQ+ offspring. Other family members and friends are welcome to join and learn. Because of privacy concerns for some members, the location of this support group is kept confidential. Email info@pridecc.org with why you would like to attend to get details on venue.
Meets: First Monday of Every Month, 6PM
Gender Affirming Support Group (GASG)
Our Gender Affirming Support Group is made up of individuals who identify anywhere on the gender spectrum. We share with each other the trials and tribulations of being transgender, nonbinary, or gender expansive in the Brazos Valley. Often we are there to help support and lift each other up through shared frustrations and strategies for addressing those frustrations. All are welcome, but topics discussed will be to support those who do not identify as cisgender.
Meets: Second Monday of Every Month, 6PM Friends Congregational Church, UCC
LGBTQ+ Youth Support Activities
During the summer of 2021, Pride Community Center executive director, Katrina Stewart and leaders from across our Brazos Valley community came together to find a way to provide a peer support system for youth in 7th through 12th grades. We quickly learned that youth were “zoomed out” following COVID-19. As a result, we pivoted and started a series of bi-monthly youth activities with the youth group of Friends Congregational Church, UCC; Friends of St. Joan; and others who wish to join. Activities vary bi-monthly, so far we have had:
- A game night at Friends church
- Craft night at Friends church
- Theatre Outing for Pride Month at The Theatre Company featuring “The Spongebob Musical”
Future plans include a movie night out, cookout, and other fun activities. Email info@pridecc.org and stay tuned to our social media to see what this group is doing next.
